CLASSIC STORIES Mystery and Adventure, edited by Will Fowler

     This week I read CLASSIC STORIES Mystery and Adventure. This book has fourteen stories from Penguin Readers Classics. Here are some of the most exciting and frightening stories of all time. I wrote down three quotes and discuss them.

     The first one is: "Suddenly he heard a quiet voice in his ear say: 'Good morning'. Jonathan jumped with fear and cut himself on the neck. The count was standing next to him. Jonathan looked in the mirror again, but he could only see himself. 

 'Why can't I see him in the mirror?' he thought. 

 He turned again, and saw a strange, hungry look in Dracula's eyes. The count was watching the small stream of blood coming out of the cut on Jonathan's neck."(p. 9) This is the beginning of the fear in the Dracula castle. Dracula is a famous story. This was really interesting.

     

     The second one is: "Hopkins said, 'You're always so clever, Mr Holmes. You know more about this case than I do now. And you've never been to Yoxley Old Place! Will you and Dr Watson come there with me tomorrow?"(p. 39) This is from a story called 'The Return of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle'. Series of the Sherlock Holmes is also a famous story. This series is worth reading, I think.

     The third one is: "We were very close to Cairo now, and Jim was very excited. He said, "When we get to Cairo, I'll be a free man! They don't have slaves there."(p. 46) This is from a story called 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain'. Most of his books are funny and many are really for children. Huckleberry Finn is a character in one of them, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. This adventure story is really interesting. I strongly recommend.

     I want to recommend this book. Because all the story that this book has are about famous characters - Dracula, Frankenstein, Sherlock Holmes and so on. I gave this book 9stars out of 10. Discover what the great writers say about monsters and murderers, ghosts and spies.
